What We Do:

Africa Mining LDA, based in Mozambique, leads the development of the Mecuburi Gold Project in the Nampula Province. With licenses for gold and associated minerals, Africa Mining LDA is focused on responsible resource development in the mineral-rich Mecuburi District. The project aims to leverage the area’s potential to increase Mozambique’s mineral production and contribute to the growing local and international demand for gold.

Project Location

The Mecuburi Gold Project is situated in the Mecuburi District, Nampula Province, Mozambique, approximately 12 km and 30 km southeast of Mecuburi town. Covering a total of 186.53 square kilometers, the project area includes License No. 10281C (183.78 sq. km) and License No. 9547CM (2.76 sq. km). The project site is accessible via the Nampula-Rapale highway, followed by approximately 55 km of unpaved roads leading into the license area. The surrounding infrastructure, including transportation and proximity to local towns, provides logistical advantages for project activities.

Geological Details:

The Mecuburi District lies within the Precambrian Mozambique Belt, an area rich in ancient geological formations, including gneisses, amphibolites, and schists. The region's lithology is characterized by Mesoproterozoic formations, with rocks such as the Mocuba Suite, Rapale Gneiss, and Molócuè Group. High-grade metamorphic conditions have led to the formation of banded gneiss, quartz-feldspar leucogneiss, and granitic gneiss, which are favorable hosts for gold mineralization. The region has a geological history of tectonic activity, indicating a potential for primary mineralization within bedrock as well as secondary deposits in river channels.

Mineralization Potential:

Gold mineralization in the Mecuburi Project area is primarily associated with *alluvial deposits* along easterly flowing rivers. Observations from fieldwork indicate significant gold occurrences in *alluvial and colluvial sediments* along these rivers, with artisanal miners actively working in the region. Gold particles are found as coarse grains, ranging from 1 mm to 3 mm, with panning and sluicing techniques used by locals to recover gold from sediment deposits. Initial investigations have not yet identified substantial primary (hard rock) gold sources, but further exploration may uncover bedrock-hosted mineralization. The license areas are expected to hold substantial gold deposits due to the riverine nature of the mineralization and proximity to potential bedrock sources.

Exploration Highlights:

Alluvial Gold Recovery: Field surveys in June 2024 observed extensive alluvial gold mining along riverbeds, indicating a strong potential for additional gold resources within the license areas. Artisanal Mining Evidence: Locals engage in artisanal gold extraction, with operations covering significant portions of the riverbanks. Excavated materials have shown substantial recovery rates. Prospecting Insights: Observations reveal that gold particles are sub-rounded to sub-angular and flattish, suggesting transport by river currents from upstream bedrock sources. Sample Processing: Using traditional methods, locals recover up to 300-500 mg of gold per processed unit (85 cm x 45 cm) of sediment. These results suggest that mechanized processing could yield even greater recovery rates.

Positives for Investors:

High Alluvial Gold Potential: Evidence of alluvial gold across river channels shows promise for scalable recovery operations. Proven Recovery Methods: Artisanal recovery has demonstrated the presence of economically viable gold quantities, which can be further enhanced with mechanized mining techniques. Accessible Infrastructure: The project’s location near Nampula and Mecuburi offers access to basic facilities, cellular network coverage, and local labor resources, reducing setup and operational costs. Environmental and Community Considerations: The project site includes areas where artisanal mining is already established, fostering community support and potential for a local workforce with mining experience.

Investment Opportunity:

The Mecuburi Gold Project presents a compelling investment opportunity in Mozambique’s growing gold sector. Africa Mining LDA’s licenses cover promising areas with demonstrated gold recovery potential. Initial artisanal activities indicate extensive alluvial gold deposits, while the geological setting suggests potential for primary sources. By investing in modern exploration techniques and small-to-medium scale mechanized operations, investors could capitalize on the high-margin gold resources in a stable market. Given the growing demand for gold, the Mecuburi Gold Project is well-positioned to deliver substantial returns as it moves from artisanal to systematic, scalable mining.
